Using a Christian and Biblical Worldview, this online self-paced course for advanced upper middle school and all high school age levels includes plot, character, and literary analysis; background information of the Victorian times and the life of Charles Dickens and how it influenced the creation and the content of this novella; and instruction on the elements of a story, use of characters, conflict, and literary devices and techniques that Dickens utilized to convey a message dear to his heart.
This study also includes video instruction, vocabulary terms and definitions for the novella, elements of a story, and literary devices and techniques, worksheets and handouts to complete while reading the story, a list of optional writing and project assignments to complete the study, and a certificate of completion.
This literature study looks at this story and themes, dialogues, characters, and Biblical literary allusions it references and correlates those to Bible verses that highlight the idea expressed in the story. There is also a handout of Bible verses for each chapter for your reference for you to use however you like, independently.
You can choose to complete whatever handouts and worksheets you wish. If you only want to answer the comprehension questions after each chapter, you can do so and only watch the video reviewing the answers for the questions.
The questions for each chapter are divided into two sections – easier and more difficult. You can answer all of the questions if you wish. A couple of the questions may overlap, in which you can choose which ones you want to answer.
If you do not wish to complete all the of the worksheets for the plot map, literary devices and the character analysis, that is an option as well. There is a separate video for each chapter reviewing the possible answers for those handouts as well, and you can always skip to that portion of the short video to review just the answers for the worksheets you have completed.
